The story focuses on Siva, a housewife from Kattupalli, who has been looking after her ailing mother since she was a child. When her single brother, Sasikumar, returns from abroad, Siva is forced to take on the responsibility of an orphaned child, Urmila. The movie also shows the journey of the young girl who is torn between the custody of her adoptive mother and her biological father. Sasikumar gets married and the society forces him to choose between his parents in the temple. As they decide to separate, Siva's brother, who always wants his mother's favour, beats his father and is sentenced to 10 years in prison for this crime. The movie is riddled with police, bureaucratic and cultural hurdles to make the marriage happen. After Sasikumar's release, Siva and Sasikumar spend a romantic day at the beach before Siva leaves for the home of her brother. While on the way back, the car ahead of them is involved in a accident where those in the car get killed. The news reaches the hospital by the time Siva is there but the doctor informs her that her brother hasn't survived the accident. He then takes some time in deciding whether to go for a second opinion in order to check whether he's living or not. After Siva kills herself, Sasikumar is given artificial respiration by the nurse. When the situation comes to light, Sasikumar confesses his crime to the doctor. He also reaches in time to see Siva hanged at the prison gate. The movie shows the single mother who gives up her daughter to take Sasikumar's life, the strong-hearted father who shouts against the post-confession suicide of his wife, the police officer who gives a shameful death sentence and the lawyer who is never able to reach his client. After Sasikumar's death, Urmila enters Sasikumar's home, which develops into a tight bond between Sasikumar's parents and Urmila. Sasikumar now gets to know about Urmila, who is from a good family and the world hopes for her to get married to Sasikumar.
